Beautiful #1

Synopsis
INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.
Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
My 2 cents
A friend of mine said that this title couldn't be more aptly named, and she is right! Beautiful Disaster is a story of two people who are disasters themselves trying to make a relationship work. I was completely hooked with this book after 20 pages. Its like a train wreck--you can't stop watching it!
Travis Maddox is the University's hot young stud. Famous for his first rate fights and his one night stands, he's the type of guy who makes every girl around him swoon. The exact type of guy Abby Abernathy swears to avoid! Abby is the daughter of a train wreck of a man herself, and has sworn off that lifestyle for good. When Travis fails to impress her, and she doesn't throw herself at him, he is intrigued, and a weird sort of friendship forms.
The characters are what really made this book for me. Even though I disagreed with just about everything that Travis and Abby did, they were awesome to read about! The supporting characters were great, too. Shepley is Travis's cousin and roommate, and his girlfriend, Mare (America) is also Abby's best friend. Shepley was actually the guy that I loved in the story--he was stupid at times, but basically a good guy, and very loyal to his friends. Mare was the best friend you would ever ask for--in fact, she was a good enough of a friend to place her friend before Shepley's needs many times. There is also Finch, a really good gay friend of Mare and Abby's. He was a bit of comic relief so badly needed in a deep, dark story.
I absolutely loved this story, but I did knock it down half a star to make my rating 4.5. Why? Mainly because I really didn't like Travis's dark, possessive, jealous, and sometimes violent, side. I think Abby deals with it appropriately, but I just don't like the message it sends. I could sit back and enjoy the story for what it was, but I fear lots of young girls might not understand the mixed messages. For the record, Travis is a guy I would probably never even go near. I don't even think I could be friends with him. He's just not for me.
But that's just my opinion, and I still think the story is awesome, and take it for what you will. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!

"Robyn Grady creates compelling stories with believable characters you'll love!" -- New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery
After college graduation, Helene Masters is excited to land a job in a picturesque Aegean kingdom. Tasked with sprucing up the Prince's villa, she inadvertently finds herself trapped on the island with the sexiest man alive. Of course she has to fall for a man who is destined to only marry royalty.
Darius Vasily, Prince of Teirenias, can't figure out what pretty, but accident-prone, Helene is doing at his private estate. After dousing him in paint, she disappears inside the secret cave holding the royal family treasure--a fertility statue, but a cave-in traps them both. Now Darius has to figure out how to save them before he kills her for getting them into this mess in the first place--or gives into their amazing chemistry.
My 2 cents
My Rating: 4 stars
The story started out rather predictable. Hot, stud of a man meets hot, cute naive girl that his below his station. Hot guy can't get cute girl out of his head, and eventually he must have her!
But the story turned into so much more than that. The first half of the story was a beautiful romance between this couple on a secluded island in the Mediterranean. The romance was perfect, and the setting was beautiful. The sex scenes were hot, and things were actually pretty believable.
The second half of the story is where I got hooked and had to stay up late finishing the story! I don't want to give away any spoilers, but things happen out of the couples control, and pretty soon, Helene finds herself staying with Darius at his palace! At the same time, she finds some old papers that tell a story of another princess 100 years ago, and the tragedy that befell her. What I loved about this story was the old fashioned kingdom concept with a little bit of a historical aspect. At the same time, the story still felt current and modern.
I loved Helene best of the entire cast of characters. Darius was a hunk, but also kind of stupid at times. Helene was very intellligent, and very good with people. I actually felt like she was born for royalty as Darius seemed to be stumbling around with decision making a bit.
The ending of the story was beautiful and all I had hoped for. This is a great romantic story about two people trying to balance love with old fashioned ideals!

Alana MacGregor craves excitement, but when her sometimes lover dumps her at a popular sex club, she wonders if she’s outgrown her live-fast-and-recover-later lifestyle. The last thing she expects is to run into the nerdy guy she rebuffed in high school—or for him to rock her world in ways no other man ever has.
Hot on the trail of a story, Carter Nicholas can’t believe his luck at encountering the one woman he’s never forgotten. He’s come a long way from being a wall-hugging geek. Now he gets all A’s between the sheets. But can he convince Alana he’s her sure ticket to an unforgettable night—and maybe much more?
My 2 cents
I picked this one up for free on my Kindle the other day. This was a fairly quick read with not a lot of substance. Sex scenes seemed to dominate, which wasn't unexpected...but there was all these inner thoughts between the two MCs during these scenes, so it seemed to ruin the flow a little for me. I did like the characters, but the book lacked a basic plot, probably because it was so short. There wasn't much of an ending, either, which ws my biggest complaint. The sex scenes were hot and steamy, though, so if that's what you are looking for, you'd like this one!

Ten Tiny Breaths #1
My rating: 5 stars
Synopsis
Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.
Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.
But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.
My 2 cents
This book was an emotional roller coaster ride! I fell in love with it--Kacey, Livvie, Trent, little Maia, Storm, and crazy funny Ben! The story made me experience every emotion. I was laughing out loud on some pages, drooling over Trent in others, and tearing up by the end. Just know if you read this, you might want to read it in the privacy of your bedroom, not out in public. People will be staring at you!
Our MC, Kacey, has had a tough time of things. She was in a horrific car crash when she was 16. Her parents, best friend, and boyfriend all died in the crash. She was the only survivor, but she was badly injured, and underwent many surgeries and physical therapy. 4 years later, she has buried all of out down deep, and has run away with her little sister, Livvie, who is 15, to Miami. Their current guardians were not good at all, so Kacey vows she will get a job and take care of her sister.
She doesn't expect to meet so many great people who care about her and Livvie in Miami. Especially Trent, her new next door neighbor, who does things to her no one have ever done before. Trent was yummy goodness all wrapped up in a somewhat "bad boy" exterior. The romance in this one was fabulous, and not typical at all, which I enjoyed.
The story has an amazing cast of characters, and they are what made the book for me. Kacey's neighbors, boss, and sister make up as much of the story as Trent does, which was refreshing. The story felt so real, and I think that was in part to the characters.
But this book is all about Kacey, and her trying to find her way after tragedy. She is full of rage and hurt, and the book bounces around a lot, depending on her mood swings. She thinks she has it all figured out, but she's not even close! There is a major twist at the end that I did not see coming at all! The ending was perfect. The entire book was perfect. I think this may have been the best book I've read so far this year!

Leaving the house to go to school, I had schoolbooks spilling out of one hand, the other holding my place in a Nancy Drew novel, and bunny slippers still on my feet. My mom was a wee bit upset.
I haven't changed much. Still always have a book (or two) in my hand or creating stories in my head, and although I don't have any bunny slippers, I love writing in my jammies and snuggly slipper socks.
When I grow up (maybe a hundred years from now), I'd like to be a superhero, but for now, saving the day, one page at a time, suits me just fine.
With my husband TJ (my own cuddly werewolf), I home-school our three girls, who keep us busy with art, science projects, books to read, dance classes, and walks about the park.

Playing Hooky is a paranormal YA romance, although the characters were older. There isn't any graphic love scenes, though, so the story is appropriate for all teens! Jason shows up on Emma's birthday to take her on another adventure, a birthday tradition for the best friends. While Emma thinks they will probably go skiing, Jason actually plans to show her his secret life.
This is a short novella highlighting their adventure. It is a dual POV story between Emma and Jason. We learn early on that Jason is in love with Emma and has been for years. Emma tried to make a move on him when they were 13, but it ended badly, so she's always stuck him in the "friend" category. The relationship between Emma and Jason is the best stuff of the story, and I really want there to be more!
I felt that the paranormal side wasn't fully explored, and it seemed way to easy for Emma to accept so quickly. Not a lot really gets explained about Jason himself, either. The adventure was very good, though, and the ending was a beautiful scene! I'm hoping we get to learn more about Jason in the next book!

Wait for You by J Lynn (Jennifer L Armentrout)

Wait for You #1
My rating: 4 stars
Synopsis
Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…
My 2 cents
I was so thrilled to get to read a NA contemporary by Jennifer Armentrout! I love her books, and this one was no exception! This is definitely an NA book--there are a lot of graphic sex scenes, so be forewarned!
The story is told from Avery's POV. Its obvious from the beginning that she has problems, and although she gives us a lot of hints, we don't actually get the full story of what happened to her when she was 14 until the very end of the story. I was able to guess a lot of it, though!
It starts off with her literary running into the hot and tall Cam Hamilton! Avery is shy, wary, and afraid of all guys in general. She has been a social recluse all through high school, so she isn't used to making friends and hanging out with people! Luckily, Cam changes all that for her!
I loved the romance in this story. Some of the scenes just sizzled, but it also had that first love sort of feel. Avery had never even kissed anyone before Cam, which comes as a shock to him since she is 19 years old! Most of the story was about Avery and Cam, although we get to meet a few other friends in there as well. All of the characters were very well done. This was a total college feel type of book!
The ending was a little surprising for me, and I was really happy with the way it tied things up, but still kept things realistic. This is the first in a series, so I can't wait to read more about Avery and Cam!

Sweet Valley High, Ten Years Later
My rating: 4 stars
Synopsis
What terrible secret has torn Jessica and Elizabeth apart?
Ten years after Sweet Valley High, the Wakefield twins have had a falling out of epic proportions. When Jessica commits a complete and utter betrayal, Elizabeth flees to New York to escape the pain. Jessica remains in California, dealing with the fallout of her heart-wrenching choices. But with Elizabeth as her enemy, Sweet Valley is no longer the idyllic town of their youth.
Elizabeth soon decides the only way to heal her broken heart is to get revenge for Jessica’s duplicity. Always the “good” twin, Elizabeth about to turn the tables…
Francine Pascal finally unfolds the continuing story of Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield—and the whole gang from Sweet Valley—that will delight and surprise the millions of fans of these beloved characters.
My 2 cents
I've heard terrible reviews on this book, but I just had to read it for myself! Sweet Valley! Oh my gosh, I loved these books when I was young! I read all the Sweet Valley Twins when I was in 5th and 6th grade, then started the Sweet Valley High set in 7th grade. I'm sure I've read them all!
Well, I was pleasantly surprised! It was a really good visit back to Sweet Valley! I'm guessing the reviews had to do more with people's reactions to their favorite characters. But what is Sweet Valley without some drama? Did you really think everyone was going to live happily ever after?
So the big secret that the synopsis promises? Its a game changer! (This is not a spoiler, its brought up right away in the book!) The betrayal--Jessica and Todd! I kid you not! Todd cheats on Elizabeth with Jessica, and now Todd and Jessica are getting married! Elizabeth is, understandably super pissed off about this, and has turned a complete 180! She is no longer the sweet, kind soul we loved in the previous books! She is a woman looking for revenge!
Jessica, on the other hand, hasn't really changed all that much. She is completely in love with Todd. I guess you would hope so, to betray her sister! Todd came across as an arse in this book. Meanwhile, Bruce has also turned a 180, and is Elizabeth's best friend! Lila Fowler, Ken Matthew, and Caroline Pearce also have not changed one bit. Be prepared for some other game changers from Steven Wakefield, Winston Egbert, and Enid (can't think of her last name)! In fact, Enid hardly makes the story!
A lot of the story is comprised of flashbacks that shows the reader what really happened to change all these characters so much. Francine Pascal could write a whole new series just on these flashbacks alone! But considering how unhappy most fans seem with this book, I'm guessing it won't be in our future! The ending was perfect for me! It was not was I was expecting, but I loved it!

With FROM THIS MOMENT ON, bestselling author Bella Andre introduces you to Marcus, the second Sullivan bad boy, whose life will never be the same from the moment he meets Nicola….
For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he's planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.
Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name - Nico - for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is...or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger - and the sinful promises - in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.
One night is all Nicola and Marcus agree to share with each other. But nothing goes as they plan when instead of simply tangling limbs, they find a deeper connection than either of them could have anticipated. And even though they both try to fight it, growing emotions - and sizzling attraction - keep drawing them closer together.
Close enough for them to wonder if stealing one more secret moment together can ever be enough?

One night is all Nicola and Marcus agree to share with each other. But nothing goes as they plan when instead of simply tangling limbs, they find a deeper connection than either of them could have anticipated. And even though they both try to fight it, growing emotions - and sizzling attraction - keep drawing them closer together.
Close enough for them to wonder if stealing one more secret moment together can ever be enough?
My 2 cents
I liked this book a little better than the first one. I didn't like
Marcus as much as Chase,
and Marcus really wouldn't be my type, but I
loved Nicola, and the sexual tension and the angst between them. There were a lot of sweet scenes between Marcus and Nicola. I love the structure of the
story, and the scene at the video shoot the next day after they meet
is priceless. As is the scene at the family luncheon!
I loved that we got to see the relationship between Marcus and Lori. They are a great pair! It really showed how much of a "big brother" Marcus is. It was great to see more of the Sullivan family in this book!
I didn't really like how controlling
Marcus was. Nicola was so pure and mostly innocent, it just seemed
wrong somehow. Not my type of thing at all.
I loved the ending, and how it wasn't a
really big happy ever after, which made it feel more realistic. Marcus and Nicola were still trying to make things
work, and it left a lot of open ends, so I'm hopeful for another book
on these two!
