Out of Play Cover Reveal!

Rock star drummer Bishop Riley doesn't have a problem. Celebrities—especially ones suffering from anxiety—deserve to party, right? Wrong. After taking a few too many pills, Bishop wakes up in the hospital facing an intervention. If he wants to stay in the band, he’ll have to detox while under house arrest in Seldon, Alaska.

Hockey player Penny Jones can't imagine a life outside of Seldon. Though she has tons of scholarship offers, the last thing she wants is to leave. Who'll take care of her absent-minded gramps? Not her mother, who can’t even be bothered with the new tenants next door.

Penny’s too hung up on another guy to deal with Bishop’s crappy attitude, and Bishop’s too busy
sneaking pills to care. Until he starts hanging out with Gramps. If Bishop wants a chance with the fiery girl next door, he’ll have to admit he has a problem and kick it. Too bad addiction is hard to kick…and Bishop’s about to run out of time.

Dark Lover by JR Ward

Synopsis:  In the Shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers.  There exists a secret band of brothers like  no other--six vampire warriors, defenders of their race.  Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago.  But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed--orphaning a half breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate--Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...

Racked by a restlessness in her boy that wasn't there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes.  His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her.  But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both...

My 2 cents:  It has taken me a long time to start this series, because I'm not normally into graphic romance novels.  I finally took everyone's advice and gave it a go.  And I loved it!  The characters are so strong and interesting, the plot just sucked me in, and the secret Vampire World JR Ward creates is fantastic! I give it 5 stars!

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

Synopsis:
The smash-hit debut novel for every woman who has ever had a complicated love-hate friendship.
Rachel White is the consummate good girl. A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan law firm and a diligent maid of honor to her charmed best friend Darcy, Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she has watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. But that suddenly changes the night of her thirtieth birthday when Rachel finally confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiance, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In so doing, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself.
Editorial Review:
An unexpected love affair threatens a long-lived friendship in this soap opera–like debut from Atlanta ex-lawyer Giffin. Since elementary school, Rachel and Darcy have been best friends, with Darcy always outshining Rachel. While single Rachel is the self-confessed good girl, an attorney trapped at a suffocating New York law firm, Darcy is the complete opposite, a stereotypical outgoing publicist, planning a wedding with the handsome Dex. After Rachel's 30th birthday party, she knocks back one drink too many and winds up in bed with Dex. Instead of feeling guilty about sleeping with her best friend's fiancĂ©, Rachel realizes that Dex is the only man she's really loved, and that she's always resented manipulative Darcy. Rachel and Dex spend a few weekends in the city together "working" while Darcy's off with friends at a Hamptons beach share, but finally Rachel realizes she'll have to give Dex an ultimatum. The flip job Giffin pulls off—here it's the cheaters who're sympathetic (more or less)—gives Dex and Rachel's otherwise ordinary affair extra edge. Rachel would be a more appealing heroine if she were less whiny about her job and her romantic prospects, and rambling dialogue slows the story's pace, but this is an enjoyable beach read—one that'll make readers cast a suspicious eye on best friends and boyfriends who seem to get along just a little too well.  --Publisher's Weekly

My 2 cents:  I'm not normally a big fan of "chick lit", but every once in awhile I find a book I can get into.  "Something Borrowed" is not too deep, but just deep enough to give us enough to think about.  Especially about friendships!  So many women will be able to relate to Rachel, I know I did!  People Pleasers Unite!  A great beach read!  4 out of 5 stars for me!

Juliababyjen's Review

184 pages, Adult Romance
The Sullivans #1
My rating: 3.5 stars

Synopsis
With THE LOOK OF LOVE, bestselling author Bella Andre introduces you the Sullivan family. In this fun and emotional contemporary romance series, when a Sullivan bad boy falls...he falls hard. And it's forever.

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is—until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love—and protect—her, but will she let him?

Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart.

My 2 cents

After reading the first book, I realized how much I want to read the rest of the series to learn more about the whole clan!  I absolutely fell in love with Chase.  I also loved Chloe, and completely understood her desire to try and stand on her own after her crazy ex husband. At times her thoughts got a bit old, though.  I understand where her thoughts were coming from, but she was so blind to what was right in front of her!

I loved the setting of the vineyard, it was so beautiful. The vineyard is actually belongs to Marcus, the oldest Sullivan sibling.  He was in a few scenes in the book, but the rest of the family didn't make an appearance until the last chapter.  I would have liked to see them more in the story, but it did give the feeling that Chase and Chloe were alone in paradise, so to speak.  I also liked the way they met, and how Chase saved Chloe from the speeding car. The romance and sexual tension was great, as were all the sex scenes (and there were quite a few).

I didn't think there was enough action. The dialogue was good, but most of the dialogue between Chase and Chloe was the same stuff over and over. There wasn't any other character development. The conflict was a little boring as well. The whole thing wasn't very believable, having spanned only a few days.

But I did enjoy the ending, although it felt a bit rushed.  It really showed Chloe how strong she really is! And the family dinner was also fun, to get to finally meet the rest of the family!  For anyone who likes a contemporary romance, I'm sure you will enjoy this book!

Make sure to keep an eye out for more Sullivan Dating Game posts!  What are your thoughts on Chase?

My 2 cents

I really wish I would have had a boy like Micha living next door to me growing up!  He is so HOT and smexy!  Well, a girl can dream anyways!  I loved this story, and I'm finding it hard to find anything to really criticize about the novel.  If you like hot, edgy romances, this is a good find!

I loved both Ella and Micha.  The story was told as a dual POV, which I really liked, so we could get inside both of their heads.  Normally in these kind of stories, the girls always drive me crazy.  The guy is pretty obvious in how he feels, and does everything for them, but they are too scared to act on it.  But not in this case.  I really was able to relate to Ella, and understand why she acted the way she did.  I think the only thing I would have liked more of was Ella coming to terms with her relationship with her father.  Maybe in the sequel!

This was a little bit of a coming of age story, for both characters. But it was also definitely a romance!  There were plenty of spicy hot, almost sex scenes, and tons of flirting!  But it wasn't a light and fluffly read at all.  I would compare it a little to Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry.  It wasn't quite as dark, but it had the same vibe!

So now I'm going to have to read all of Jessica Sorensen's books!  I have several waiting for me on my Nook!

Welcome To My New Reading Blog

This is a sister site of Juliababyjen's Reading Room.  I realized that I mostly read and review YA novels, but occasionally I really like my romance!  Especially the new NA genre!  I always put a disclaimer on my reviews that is has adult content; but I decided I'd rather create a new blog to keep things separate.  So here we are!

I am still building this page, so excuse any construction!  I will slowly bring over posts from the YA page that feature Adult and NA content.

To get things started, though, I think we should have a giveaway!  I will be giving away a choice of eBooks.  You may choose either B&N (for the your Nook) or Amazon (for your Kindle)! You must follow this site via GFC  and be 18 years or older (because of the adult content).  The winner may choose one of the following
